Lyudmilla was examined by Dr. Maxim Coliusko at SmilEst dental clinic. Based on the results of the examination, it was decided that dental treatment was not necessary, but it was nevertheless decided to carry out a professional dental cleaning due to the fact that the patient's teeth had a lot of plaque.
Nadezhda visited Implanttihoito and her oral cavity was cleaned. Her teeth were in good condition and did not need treatment but were partially covered with plaque. As a result of the inspection, it was decided to perform professional dental cleaning.
Professional dental cleaning is a complex of measures aimed at removing dirt caused by food residues, microbes and plaque. On the surface, brushing twice a day may seem to prevent calculus and germs, but this is not entirely true. When using a toothbrush, it makes no difference whether you use a classic toothbrush or its electrical equivalent, all toothbrushes work the same way. When brushing teeth, there are places on the surface of the teeth and especially in the gum pockets (the gap between the tooth and the gum), where food residues tend to get stuck - as a result, pathogenic flora is formed in these places. Over time, such clusters become thicker and harder and different forms of calculus. Mouthwash is the most effective of the home hygiene solutions (a device that allows a jet of water to clean teeth in difficult places), but it is also not a miracle product and even the best possible cleaning of teeth at home (as you think it does) can be recommended by your dentist.
Inspection for professional tooth cleaning
As mentioned earlier, professional dental cleaning is a complex measure. First, it means the ultrasonic removal of calculus. Further treatment of the teeth by air flow (a safe mixture of soda crystals and water) to remove those clusters that could not be removed by ultrasound. The dentist then cleans the gum pockets using special instruments. The last step is to polish the teeth to reduce calculus deposition for a while.
It is believed that professional dental cleaning is only necessary for those who do not brush their teeth properly at home - this is not the case. Using a classic or even electric toothbrush twice a day keeps your teeth clean, but there are places where the toothbrush cannot get in, and it is not possible to remove all pathogenic flora or calculus. This is especially important for the so-called gum pockets (the gap between the tooth and the gum), most calculus is formed there and you have to go to a dental clinic to remove it.
Professional dental cleaning is generally a complex of measures designed to remove everything that does not belong to the oral cavity (dental plaque, microbes, calculus) and, if possible, to prevent the formation of such clusters in the future. The procedure itself can usually be performed in one (less often two) hours and consists of several sequential steps:
Ultrasonic calculus removal. A special device is used with which it is possible to break calculus with the help of ultrasound and later remove it from the tooth surface.
Air-Flow. It is a procedure using a special apparatus that sprays a mixture of air and water under pressure on the teeth, which has been specially prepared and also contains soda crystals. The air-flow method is designed to remove everything that could not be removed by ultrasound from the surface of the teeth. An additional plus is that with this method, the teeth become 2-3 shades whiter.
Calculus curettage. Cleaning teeth by a dentist with a special instrument.
Polishing. In the last stage, the teeth can be carefully treated in order to reduce the persistence of calculus in the future.
