Men has always wanted to look attractive. In today's world, the desire to "improve oneself" has received special attention. New medical fields and entire disciplines such as cosmetology, implantation, etc. have emerged. This trend has not passed away in dentistry either. We talked about aesthetic dentistry with Dmitri Filipenko, chief physician of Implanttihoito.
It is impossible to imagine a person who takes care of his teeth and image, but who would be satisfied with a smile that does not look healthy and beautiful. However, not all of us have been blessed with a beautiful smile since childhood. It is not worth giving up, in which case you will receive help from aesthetic dentistry.
Aesthetic (or even cosmetic) dentistry is a field of medicine, the main task of which is to improve the appearance and smile of teeth in general. Based on this definition, it is clear, that it is important to ensure dental health before it is possible to start thinking about the aesthetic part of the problem.
The problems of each patient who visits our clinic are individual, so every treatment and "aesthetic correction", especially in our dentistry, begins with a free consultation, during which the doctor performs a thorough assessment, X-rays and a treatment plan. You can find out more about the most "complicated" cases at these two links: link and link. We focus on cases where the teeth are healthy, but it is necessary to restore their beautiful appearance. It is usually possible to distinguish some typical cases when patients contact us.
The patient does not like the color of teeth
The reasons why a patient does not like the color of his teeth may be different in each case. This is most often caused by smoking and / or eating 'colored' food and drinking beverages such as tea and coffee. The problem can be solved by whitening, but it must be remembered that many different whitening technologies can be used and the least irritating methods for tooth enamel should be chosen. Darkening of the teeth may also occur some-time after the nerve has been removed, in which case the root canal of the tooth is darkened because it is not completely filled with filler or the tooth enamel is deficient in nutrients. In this case, prosthetics can help - a dental crown or laminate can be installed. A dental crown differs from a laminate in that it is placed on the discolored tooth and covers it completely, on all sides - when the laminate is used, it is placed only on the outer part of the tooth and the discolored tooth is only minimally, if ever, covered. Laminates may also be the only solution for people with yellow tooth enamel that cannot be corrected with whitening.
Inclined teeth
Improper dentition has both negative health effects (improper tooth memory with digestive problems, but also uneven load distribution on the teeth, early tooth loss, etc.), but it also has a clear effect on the aesthetic appearance of the teeth. The solution to this problem depends on the specific case of the patient, but possible measures to correct the situation are:
• Braces - well-known orthodontic braces for occlusion correction.
• Liners - transparent, hypoallergenic acrylic cabinets. Unlike braces, aligners are a milder method of bite correction based on the wearing of interchangeable polymeric, each of which corrects one particular tooth in the right direction. In addition, the aligners are almost invisible during wear and can be removed during meals or hygiene procedures.
• Laminates - small gaps between teeth can be closed with laminates. Laminates made for this purpose are slightly larger than the patient's teeth, thus covering the "gap" between the teeth.
• Crowns - The most radical method of correcting a tooth means turning the teeth and completely crowning the teeth on each side to create a tooth of the desired shape and size.
Dental defects
Tooth cracks, cracks and fractures (yes, there are even broken teeth). Depending on the specific defect, such problems can be solved in one of the following ways:
Tooth extension with filling material is the cheapest way to correct a small defect in one or more teeth, but the aesthetic result of this solution is worse than the results comparable to other methods, and the service life of the restored tooth is also shortened.
Crowns - this method can be used only if at least one third of the tooth is left above the gum and the tooth root is in relatively good condition. In our clinic, there are often situations where dental crowns have-to be placed on a healthy smile (10 - 12 teeth) on one or both jaws. Firstly, it allows you to hide the flaws in your teeth, but secondly, it gives all your teeth a beautiful shape and color.
Laminates - the same conditions apply as when using crowns, but at the same time it is a more sustainable solution than using only crowns.
No teeth
Edentia, this means the absence of a tooth, of course - I believe that this problem also falls within the scope of this article, and it is useful to talk about it here.
• Removable prosthesis - in my opinion, it is completely impossible to consider this method as an aesthetic solution, it is a possibility to solve partial or complete edentia.
• Implantation - When using an implant, the dental bone must first be implanted and then a dental crown must be placed on it. It is the most reliable way to replace a missing tooth, but it is also the most "serious" solution, as it requires a full operation.
• Fixed prosthesis - in this case a bridge made of crowns is placed between the teeth next to the missing tooth, which closes the gap in the tooth above the missing tooth.
As you can see, aesthetic medicine solves the problems of not the most beautiful smiles differently and at different prices. Your dentist may advise which solution is right for you.
